Pastor of Media and Communications
I grew up with my grandparents for most of my early childhood. I moved in with my mom around age 11 and lived on Hilton Head Island, SC until the mid 1980s. My mom had remarried shortly before I moved in with her and we moved to Granbury because of the Glen Rose Power Plant.
I went to church off and on during my childhood years. I remember learning all the stories but not really developing a relationship with Jesus. I accepted Christ at a pretty early age and continued to do what I wanted and felt was right until High School. I made some bad choices during the High School years but finally came to my senses, mostly because of a friend named Jeremy Ables. I met my future wife, Crystal Butler, in High School but didn’t start dating until after I graduated. My eyes were opened to how a relationship with Jesus was different than just attending church around the same time that my daughter, Makaul, was born. I had really fallen away from church in High School and became the guy that will try anything once. Crystal was pretty involved with the preschool age kids at a church but I didn’t want anything to do with church. She asked me to go with her to church so we could raise our daughter in a Godly home and instill the principles that would help her deal with anything that life would throw at her. I didn’t know what I was in for. The church and the service was nothing like what I remember church being like as a kid. There was a full band and media involved during the service. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I met a few people that day that would change my life forever. Needless to say, I got involved in church as soon as there was a spot for me to serve. I started learning what it looked like to have a relationship with Christ and how it would greatly affect my life. I made several career moves as opportunities would present themselves. I had no idea what God was orchestrating until several years later. I can look back at the many conversations and quiet times I had with God and see that I am right where he wants me. He is using gifts that He gave me so that He gets the glory. I have found my purpose and it is to worship Him daily and live on mission.
